What Are People Eating to Survive in the Economic Crisis?

I came across an article in an online news journal about what people are eating to survive in this economic crisis. It’s both sickening and sad.  It has a 30 minute video in the article that really shows the depths to which people are sinking in this country just to get by in the worst recession since the Great Depression. And with the incredibly bad slate of candidates running on the Republican side, it’s really scary that there’s no change in sight.

The divide between rich and poor is getting wider and deeper. The middle class, which made America so prosperous, is getting wiped out. The BIG QUESTION is WHY? Why is this all happening? How can a once prosperous nation have such third world conditions that continue to grow? And, why is it that no candidate for the presidency, including the incumbent one, has a plan to get out of this mess?

Well, the financial crisis can be explained and understood by looking at a little history,
particularly the Kennedy presidency. I’m just about finishing up a book called Battling Wall Street Street: the Kennedy Presidency. It gives a pretty clear picture of the power structure in this country and the two opposing belief systems.

One is that of the ruling elite, Wall Street, the Eastern Establishment, they are all the same grouping of wealthy families who want America to be like a feudal society where they control the means of production, raw materials, energy, water, all the necessities of life. And, they make the political decisions, the president simply implements their decisions.

On the other side are those who believe, as Kennedy did, that all humans are created by God and that there is an inherent right to a dignified life, that living standards can be improved through better technology and icreased efficiency and that governments should be used to foster economic development for their populations.

These are two diametrically opposed world views, or beliefs. America was clearly founded on the latter belief as is outlined in the Declaration of Independence. However, that belief has been overshadowed by the philosophical, and literally the biological descendents of, enemies of the American Revolution .

How does the book play into the article about the economic crisis and what people are eating? First, here is an excerpt from the article:

“You might not want to read this article if you have a weak stomach.  Most Americans have absolutely no idea what is going on in the dark corners of America, and when people find out the truth it can come as quite a shock.  Many of you will not believe some of the things Americans are doing just to survive.  Some families are living in sewers and drain tunnels, some families are living in tents, some families are living in their cars, some families will make ketchup soup for dinner tonight and some families are even eating rats.

Those of us that still live comfortably are often completely unaware of what life is like out on the streets of America at this point.

There are millions upon millions of Americans that have lost all hope and that are living on the very edge of life and death.

And more join the ranks of the hopeless with each passing day.  This upcoming weekend approximately 80,000 people in the state of Michigan will lose their unemployment benefits.

So what are those people going to do after that?

They have already been unable to find work month after month.  Their savings are most certainly gone.  Now the only money they had coming in is going to be eliminated.”

The book shows how quickly a president could, and has, used the power of the government to bring rapid growth and recovery to the American economy.  So, all the suffering that we see, all the job losses, all the misery doesn’t have to happen. It was purposely brought about.

So, I say don’t believe the excuses that Obama has so much to turn around that he can’t do it overnight. Wrong!! He could put people back to work quickly it if he gets rid of the Wall Street crowd around him.
